GRADE 10 “MACBETH” DINNER
This was such a fantastic evening and, according to our English Department, the standard was higher than ever. What follows are reports on the evening…
“On Thursday 23rd April, Grade 10’s from Cedar House attended the 2009 Macbeth Dinner in room 6. The process, in preparation and in execution, was a stressful one for everyone involved, but most of all, I think, for Mrs Rumboll. All the stress paid off, however and ensured an enjoyable evening for everyone. Preparation began after school when some students set up the room and decorated it with ivy, candles and fairy lights. Table cloths arrived at the last minute. Soon everyone was seated outside, in the courtyard in full medieval apparel ready to experience a bagpipe performance. After Piper James had finished his recital, some of us got to try out the bagpipes and yet others were selected to perform a highland fling. Afterwards, we formed a procession and were led into the banquet hall were we had a wonderful feast. Then, the performances began, scenes ranging from the weird sisters to Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy (brilliantly performed). The evening ended in an inspiring lecture by the guest speaker, Mr Rumboll, and delicious pudding supplied by the Grade 10s. Well done to all involved and a big thanks to Mrs. Rumboll for “the best Macbeth dinner ever!”
“On Thursday 23 April the Grade 10’s had their Macbeth Dinner. We started off the evening with a bagpipe recital from a piper that once played for the Queen. He managed to get some of our classmates involved in a bout of Scottish dancing which provided much amusement for those watching. The setting-up team had decorated the room with long, white tablecloths, candles, ivy and sparkling lights to give it a rather otherworldly feel. The meal was served (only finger food) and the juice flowed until it was time for the performances of the play. Everyone did scenes from the play and acted with much enthusiasm and dedication. It was interesting to see the grade take on Shakespearian dress. We ended off the night with a speech about Macbeth from Mr Rumboll. Overall, it was a fun and relaxed evening and an interesting change from everyday work. Thanks to Mrs Rumboll for organising the event and Mrs Baron and Mrs Conradt for attending.” - Kate Pinchuck, Grade 10

THE GREAT GATSBY” GRADE 11 DINNER
“On Thursday, about three weeks ago, we had an evening that was based on the novel, The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald. The evening involved speeches by staff and pupils around the novel. The event involved optional dancing and compulsory dressing up in the 1920’s style. The event had great decorum. There were candles, virgin cocktails, platters of food and a general 1920’s set up. Debbie and Sarah had one of the best presentations. They put on accents to give a feel of the 1920’s, dressed accordingly and spoke brilliantly. In fact, all the presentations were well prepared and presented. Mr Rumboll’s speech held everyone’s attention. He spoke amazingly about the novel and substantiated all his opinions. After Mr Rumboll’s speech, Zodwa responded with a heart-warming, appreciative reply. Overall the evening was very well planned and the students thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you to all those who made the evening happen.”
